It\u2019s called a \u201cmating flight\u201d which after it finishes the males die and the females find a place to start their new colony.<\/p>\n<p>It can take up to six years before you notice any signs of infestation as that\u2019s how long it can take for them to establish their colony. Fire ants (RIFA) are small, exotic insects that can inflict a painful sting to humans. Exactly this is what makes them so dangerous to have them around your property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you come to encounter fire ants on your property, it\u2019s best to call professionals to handle them and to inform your local government, as they\u2019re very dangerous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"accordions\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion\">\n\t\t\t<header class=\"accordion__title\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"accordion__icon\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<i><\/i>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\n\t\t\t\t<p>Appearance<\/p>\n\t\t\t<\/header> <!-- .\/accordion__title -->\n\n\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion__desc\">\n\t\t\t\t<p><em>Solenopsis<\/em><strong><em> Invicta<\/em>\u00a0are around two to six millimetres in size.<\/strong>\u00a0These little devils have\u00a0<strong>copper-coloured heads and bodies, and slightly darker bottoms<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The worker ants can be close to black in appearance!<\/p>\n\t\t\t<\/div> <!-- .\/accordion__desc class=\"accordion__desc\">\n\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Fire ants prefer to nest in your backyard and would rarely enter inside your house.<\/strong>\u00a0Pots on the ground or landscape decor\u00a0<em>(like logs and stone)<\/em>\u00a0are likely places where you can find them.<\/p>\n<p>Nests can be either dome-shaped mounds\u00a0<em>(30cm in height)<\/em>\u00a0or can be flat, resembling a patch of soil, which makes them hard to recognise.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Red imported fire ants are extremely aggressive, especially if they\u2019re close to their nest and are capable of inflicting painful metallic pony ant has a painful sting and is also known to sting people<\/strong>.
