All of us love the calming chirps of songbirds. There is nothing like drinking a peaceful cup of coffee in your backyard coupled with the beautiful tweeting of a Common Myna.

But if your backyard doesn’t offer the proper habitat for songbirds, your only choice is to listen to recordings of songbirds on YouTube (not quite the real deal though).

Worry not, because birds are easily attracted, and with just a couple of simple tweaks in your garden you can easily attract songbirds in your garden.

It’s important to know the bird species you want to attract, as Australia offers a wide range of screaming beasts, and just a handful of nicely sounding songbirds. After all, no one wants the sound of fighting monkeys a Kookaburra flock makes.

What Songbirds to Attract To Your Backyard

Australia isn’t known as the country with the most pleasant sounding songbirds. You’d want to attract a certain species of birds. The most common and better-sounding songbirds in Australia are:

  • Common Myna’s
  • Crimson Rosella
  • New Holland Honeyeater
  • Superb Fairy Wren
  • Willy Wingtail

The Common Myna songbird isn’t native to Australia. People have introduced them to the continent in order to fight common insect pests. Most likely you’ve heard the Common Myna’s tweet before because they tend to live close to human habitat.

When Common Myna’s gather, they are usually in flocks of thousands. In some places in Australia Common Mynas are considered as a pest.

They feed on almost anything. Common Myna’s are known scavengers. These birds feed on insects, fruits, vegetables, all types of pet food, scraps and other things that can be considered food.

While their vast diet makes it easier to attract, they may not be the best backyard companion if you have a flourishing fruit/vegetable garden.
